murals and tattoos

Murals are a lot like tattoos. Once you have one, you want to canvas the entire school with them.

Here's the mural we just finished, as a thank you to all the people who make education happen.

This one is in our class right now. We'll finish it when we come back from the summer break.

These are two different angles of one mural.

This one represents the fact that we are a collage of cultures in America. The black and white reminds us that we are all human and the statue of liberty represents freedom and immigration - two ideas that shouldn't be separated. The artist chose black and white because he didn't want us to fixate on race.

We're the Borman Astros, so we wanted something in our bland cafeteria to say that we are proud of our tradition.

We painted this on a large sheet and it hung in the State Department of Education, in the capitol and in a Veteran's hospital. It's a memorial for soldiers who died in Iraq.

Are YOU doing these murals? They are fabulous - congrats!

We have the mural bug at our school too- but they were done by a graffiti artist...certainly not by me!

Thanks. It wasn't me, it was the students. I supervised and gave a few pointers about light sources and shading and stuff. The surprising thing to me was that none of the kids were in the school art class. They just kind of experimented and found their groove.

I never get principals who let me make murals. I'm a little jealous. Also, I referenced your class blog in my U of Phoenix class. I got one participation point for bringing it up. Thanks.
