turning one-hundred

So this is my one-hundredth post on this blog. When I first began, Dustin was the only person who ever commented. It was a solitary endeavor - an online journal that I figured no one would ever really read.

It's fun now to know of people who read my blog regularly. I feel like I belong to two communities. The first is my "local group," mostly old TNL people who now live around the country or the people who are friends with old TNL people. It's been fun to read blogs from people I thought I would never see again, those who I'd lost touch with, like Sam, Andrew and Quinn. And I feel closer to the people I have kept in touch with - Dustin, Dan, Sarah, Anna. I am quick to rave about the benefits of staying local and rejecting technology. Yet, I feel really grateful for the existence of blogs.

The second community is the TeacherLingo group. When I began, people were a mere abstraction. I'd read names like "Betty" or "Mystery Teacher" and wonder who they were. Yet, in a weird way, I feel that I know some of the teachers at TeacherLingo. It's a real community, as authentic as it gets online. Still, it does seem strange that the people I "know" are people I wouldn't recognize if I saw them walking down the street.

So, yeah, one hundred posts. I'm not really into celebrating meaningless milestones, so I'll just end this post right here.

Wait, so i'm sure you're right, but...

Your account shows 36 posts in 2007 and 59 so far this year. 36+59 = 95.

And what is this crazy TeacherLingo you're talking about? Smells like a a cult to me.

I'm taking all your comments! You're going to log on and see you have (at least) 4 comments and think, "oh cool, i can't wait to see what people have to say," and then its just me, which will feel terrible (or at least disappointing). Sorry. I'm done now.

TeacherLingo is not a cult. It's a blogging community for teachers. All I have to do is shave my head and wear an orange toga and I'm totally in. Except, there's something about a set date when we'll all drink Kool-Aid.

According to my dashboard, I have 100 posts. So, I'm not sure what the hangup is.

John, I am new to your blog but found you through TeacherLingo.com. I'm not a teacher but I respect the job they do.

I am part of another blogger community at www.highlowaha.com. Our current challenge is to get individuals to write a story about a teacher who has influenced tehm in a positve way. In return for the story and $5, Claudia will send out a set of Markers to a deserving teacher in honor of each story she gets.

So... here's my question. Is it possible to post a message on the TeacherLingo.com message board suggesting people participate? The link to the post when she talks about the challenge is here:

I hope to read more of your blogs in the future. Congratulations on your 100th post!

Congrats on the 100th! It's good to have you on board. Two quick things.

1) The Dashboard counts drafts, there might be some of those floating around somewhere.

2) I want to talk to you live about your book. Coffee soon? You have my email...

Congratulations on making it to "100." Most bloggers last one year, then quietly fade away. It looks like you will make it!

We began blogging this summer as part of a technology training. We accompllished 23 tasks, one of which was TeacherLingo. I set up a blog and wrote one quick post. I was very shocked to find someone outside our group responded. It was such a great feeeling. It is amazing that you have reached 100. I know you must get a kick our of the attention given from your fellow bloggers. Maybe one day I'll reach 1oo.
