in response to a skeptic

Jesus stands before Pilate and gives a brief explanation of his identity.  Blind by hubris, still a bit drunk with power, a hungover Roman governor speaks for humanity.  "What is truth?" he says or asks or perhaps even exclaims.

Silence.

There would be a time for preaching and teaching and speaking.  A time for listening intently.  In this moment, though, the answer is silence.

I would do well to follow that example a little more often.

"What is truth?" and Jesus is silent.

'We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass grows in silence, see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls. ~ Mother Teresa
